Bird Is The Word...new challenge + new rules..

The latest challenge is up at Bird Is The Word, and the word to use this time is

I didnt create a project this time, because we thought we might change things around a little and provide you a sketch by me for some extra inspiration...

Using this sketch is NOT a requirement but rather we hope you can use this as inspiration. 

Why dont you  go on over to the blog to see what the rest of the Design Team has created with this word. Remember you can create a layout, card or any project as long as you use the challenge word in your title or journalling.

Now to some updates at Bird Is The Word..

We have received some feedback that many challenge participants would prefer that a winner be voted on by the Design Team rather than randomly drawn............so, with that said our design team will be voting on a winner beginning with this challenge!  It may take a day or two after the end of the challenge to tally the votes - so keep watching the Bird is the Word blog for the winner announcement to be posted.

We have had lots of changes and announcements lately!  Since Bird is the Word is relatively new and we are striving to improve every day, please feel free to send us feedback!

The Nook forum is finally up!!!

Well, it took almost a whole month, and even though there is still some work to be done, the forum at My Scrapbook Nook is finally up and running...

SO you might remember that almost a month ago, I set a sketch challenge there with this sketch? You did have until the 31st of March, and I know that a few of you have been emailing me asking me what to do with your entries, so I want to let you know that I have extended the deadline to the 15th of April....

CRATE Paper sketch challenge + Twisted Cards #51

Hi everyone...Happy Friday to you! Friday HAS to be my favourite day of the week...the weekend is just around the corner and its full of promises.. of time spent with family, fun activities and a bit of chilling out!

So I wanted to share with you a few more projects that I completed with my March kit from The Nook

The layout I created is for the current Crate Paper sketch challenge using this sketch as a basis

The only thing not Crate Paper is the blue background paper, the yellow string and the alphas. Everything is Emma's Shoppe

I have some VERY exciting news...

Well everyone...This has been on my mind for a while now...and finally I decided to go for it...

I have started my very own Challenge Blog called

"Once Upon A...Sketch" 

together with my friend Irma and Lou , who will be part of the Design Team and also coordinators as well.

Ladies...I must be dreaming...and you must be thinking that I am making all this up...coming in here the last few days telling you of little features here and there...But right before I went to sleep with yet another migraine plaguing me..I gave a glance to the blogs I follow...and....look at this HERE...You gotta scroll down a little...

Oh man!!! I am over the moon...as I said..maybe its my lucky week, maybe it was my amazing March Nook Kit, maybe because Emma's Shoppe was my most favourite line out of CHA this year...I don't know..but to have 4 layouts featured on Crate Paper's blog..Its unbelievable to me...As I told Crate Paper and you guys, I did only receive the March kit on Friday and created ALL those 4 layouts in 2 days.

So this Reader's Gallery feature will be an ongoing thing and they will have one every Monday..so anyone out there with a March Nook kit (full of Crate's Emma's Shoppe) or working with any latest Crate Paper lines go on and email your work to them...seeing your latest picked out like that is so cool!

The Paper Variety feature + some news

Now on to some other news...I just wanted to tell you that due to a conflict of interests between my Design Team commitments at Stuck!? and Lets Capture These Sketches, I have decided to resign from my position at Stuck!? as of yesterday.

More of My Scrapbook Nook + The Paper Variety + Sketchy Thursdays....

With the wonderful rainy weather we have been having in Sydney, and the fact that a) we had no social obligations this weekend (yes!) and b) football season has started in Australia (meaning hubby is only TOO happy to watch a couple of matches back to back on his own) , I was once again handed a few more hours to scrap...and since my wonderful DT kit was still spread out on my desk..well..do I need to say more?

I have created 2 more layouts...

The first one was inspired by the current sketch over at The Paper Variety and I am entering this in their challenge . Here is what I came up with.

Everything but the doily and the yellow string came from the main kit and some of the chipboard stickers came from a March add on.

and here is my second layout which was inspired by the sketch and super duper DT examples over at Sketchy Thursdays and I am also submitting this for their challenge

So..I have finished 4 layouts and STILL have plenty left over, but think I will go create some cards with my leftovers now.

My Scrapbook Nook MARCH kit + The Scrappiest...

Hi everyone! After what seemed like an eternity I finally received my March kit from My Scrapbook Nook and hooray for me as my term as a Design Team member there has officially begun!! And what a way to begin...with the newest and best stuff to come out of CHA WINTER....I'm talking about Crate Paper - Emma's Shoppe, My Minds Eye Stella and Rose Webster's Pages trim and some American crafts ribbon and alphas..

So I only received it yesterday and got into it right away...I completed 2 layouts...

For the first one  I took inspiration from The Scrappiest Sketch #111 and am entering this in their current challenge! So I created this layout...

Just about everything here is from the main kit with the exception of the MME Stella and Rose doily stamp which is from the March add on from the Nook..and some Prima flowers from my stash.

This is my second layout. I created this for my March sketch class at the Nook...but the forum is still down so I'd like to post it here for some inspiration. I created a sketch to go with this so as soon as the forum is up I will post it there again with the sketch and some more details.

 Note: This, my friends, is what happens when you are raising girls, and when you leave girls unattended for long periods of time (i.e 15 minutes) ...They raid your closet and handbag and present themselves like this and like nothing has happened. LOL. Seriously..she just walked out like she was just dressed in her ordinary clothes and looked at me like "what's your problem?". I wanted to cry...but I laughed. I honestly just laughed. That's why I titled this "My Girl Has Personality"..She ain't boring at all. I should point out here that she applied that lip gloss all on her own...not a smudge in sight. LOL. Anyway...note to self..the saying "for every minute you cant hear your child, estimate about $100 of damage" is probably the best advice anyone can give you..LOL.

Color Combos Galore #184..

Oh I am absolutely in love with this weeks colours at Color Combos Galore..

#184 has just gone live and this is what it looks like..

Ok seriously...I have 2 girls...Would I ever pass on this combination of colours? I dont think so...Here is my take on it...

I think this is my favourite layout to date...I have kept this aside from all the others and I am framing it for my daughter's room. I LOVE how it captures her innocence. We were at the beach here and she was SO happy...the wind blowing her hair away...I love these colours and her photo together. I thought that the girl in the inspiration photo looked angelic, calm, and serene...and Maria looks the same here.

I stuck to the whole mood of the photo as well...innocent, feminine and soft.

 I also drew inspiration from the sheer fabric in the photo and created this sheer flower from a Prima flower ribbon...

I stamped the background of an Echo Paper Be Mine paper with Distress Ink - Mustard Seed ink and a Prima scroll stamp...I am not a HUGE stamper so this is big for me..:o) I also used Prima flowers.

 I have used a lot of little details on this that I received recently from my friend Irma, such as the "smiles" quote, the yellow bling ribbon, the crochet flowers. The little pink rose buds I bought from ebay ...made in Thailand I think.

This is a Prima butterfly, Kaiser bling, Prima scalloped circle, rub ons (unknown). I punched the edge of one Echo Park paper and matted it with another.

Lets Capture These Sketches...

Hi there everyone..I hope you are doing well. Its just another ordinary Thursday here in our house...one kidlet sleeping right now, while my other precious child is at pre school ...Speaking of that..imagine my embarrasment this morning when I took her to preschool with her hair all yellow and weird because it was supposed to be Crazy Hair day...only to find out that it was tomorrow! Aaaaarggghhh...I hate that! I am very on top of these things..I dont get these things wrong because ..well...come on...imagine being a child and  turning up to school with yellow hair on an ordinary day! Need I say more?

  I even wrote it in my diary...but still confused the days. Well after a quick hair style adjustment, she looked a little less crazy (LOL!) and off she went in to her class. I better get it right tommorow! And...to think that I am a teacher too...See ..it happens to everyone..:o) Doesn't it?

Well anyway...I wanted to tell you today that I have very quietly snuck into another Design Team..the Lets Capture These Sketches Design Team! Yaaahoo! Well the reason I am excited is because I am on the card team...yep! Remember last week i told you that my card was the winner at the last challenge at Lets Capture These Sketches ? Well that meant that I got to come back as the Guest Designer ...but the lovely Sandi asked me to stay on as a permenant member! So here I am...Oh and this week our very own Aussie, Lindy Gillespie is Guest Designer!!!
